Thinking of moving to Austin Texas?

It seems like everyone knows someone who’s moving to Austin.

In the past decade the capital of Texas has grown steadily, attracting everyone from young urban professionals to artists and students. This rapid evolution is noticeable everywhere from the busy downtown area to trendy and pricey neighborhoods. Despite the growth, Austin has managed to maintain its mellow, small-town appeal. A perennial “Best Place to Live” winner, it’s also a great place to visit, offering a range of attractions and activities.

The State Capitol, the largest in the United States, and the Governor’s Mansion, which is open for tours, will appeal to those interested in the political side of Austin. History buffs can head to the Lyndon Johnson Presidential Library and Museum. LBJ was one of the city’s most famous residents. In 1982, his wife “Lady Bird” created a Wildflower Center dedicated to preserving the native plants of North America. Austin also offers recreational activities from golf to walking trails in beautiful parks. The shopping, restaurants and nightlife offer world-class appeal with a down-home Texas feel.

Are you or someone you know thinking of moving to Austin Texas?

City Of Austin Flood Plain Map

Austin is in the middle of Central Texas flash flood alley, where there is a higher potential for high-magnitude flooding than in any other region of the United States.

Central Texas is in the path of weather from the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific coast of Mexico, as well as cold fronts that blast in from the Arctic and clash with the moisture from the Gulf. The Balcones Escarpment that runs through Austin also intensifies the effects of these weather conditions.

Click on the map for details.

When Austin has heavy rainstorms, creeks often flood. There also may be flooding in streets, buildings and yards not from creeks, causing local or localized floods. All flooding can be hazardous for people and property. The goals of Austins flood control programs are to promote flood safety and to reduce the impacts of flooding to protect, lives, property and the environment.

Get Your Energy Bills Out Of Hot Water

Residential Water Heaters

From warm showers to clean dishes, we count on hot water. In fact, the average household spends $400$600 per year on water heating — making it the second largest energy expenditure behind heating and cooling.

Most Americans have conventional water heaters that are barely more efficient than ones sold 20 years ago. Today’s new ENERGY STAR qualified water heaters include smart design enhancements that offer significant improvements in efficiency — and performance. Depending on the technology you choose, you can cut your water heating costs in half!

Don’t get burned, plan ahead.

A water heater lasts about 1015 years, and when it fails it can leave you with a big mess. When in a rush to replace, it’s hard to evaluate options and consumers often end up with the least efficient choice. If you’re one of the 27 million households with a water heater that’s more than ten years old, consider replacing it with an ENERGY STAR qualified model before it fails. By acting early you have more control of your purchase and can start saving money right away.
