Dripping Springs Elementary School invites you to participate in an exciting new program: Partners in Reading Success (PIRS). Reading skills are critically important to success in school and success in life. We have a number of students in our school that could benefit from assistance with reading, and YOU can make a difference as a Reading Mentor. PIRS will meet every Friday morning with sessions from 8:00-9:00am, 9:00-10:00am, and 10:00-11:00am. The deadline for volunteering is March 30th. VISIT AUSTIN ZOO TODAY—New lion cubs, Cleopatra & Caesar AUSTIN, Texas – As of February 15, 2010 – Austin Zoo is working with other zoos and conservation societies, as well as the Barbary Lion Project, to ensure the well being of their new lions Cleopatra and Caesar and their new cubs here in Austin . Barbary lions are believed to be extinct in the wild with less than 100 in captivity in zoos around the world.”This has really been a tremendous experience,” exclaimed Patti Clark. “If we can do our small part to help keep the Barbary lion alive and well, we are more than happy to do so. These are truly, truly beautiful animals.” Viewing for the cubs are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3-4 p.m., weather permitting. DSISD SCHOOL BOARD APPLICATIONS DEADLINE IS MARCH 8TH
The seven (7) board members of the school district are unsalaried district patrons elected for a term of three (3) years to represent all of the people in the school district. The Board has final control over all major decisions regarding school policy, curriculum, expenditures, and building programs. It is the Board’s responsibility to provide tax monies for maintenance and operation of the schools, to submit bond issues to the District’s voters for construction of school facilities, and to hire the Chief Executive Officer for the District. Board authority is defined by federal and state law and by regulations set by the State Board of Education. Trustees act officially only as a group in duly called and posted Board meetings. Their interest is to serve and to protect the taxpayers’ investment in the District. Next Election is scheduled for May 8, 2010. Terms end for Steve Benesh and Curtis Wilson
