Make That Stove SHINE!!!

One of the most dreaded cleaning chores is the mainstay of every kitchen – the stove. Here are some easy environmentally friendly ways to keep your stove shining with less effort.

This blog was brought you you by:

www.FrostFinds.com

Bubble away burnt-on bits.
Coat stuck-on grime with a paste of baking soda and water and pour 1/4 cup white vinegar over it – the mix will bubble up and loosen the dirt, so all you do is wipe.Grease-proof your stove…
With tea. Brew a strong cup (3 tea bags). When tea is warm to the touch, use it to wipe down the stovetop. Tea’s tannins will soak up grime.

Make it sparkle with citrus.
Squeeze the juice from one lemon into a spray bottle; add water to fill. Spritz and wipe. The citric acid cuts through grease like magic.

Restore your burners’ brilliance!
Place each burner in a ziptop bag with 1/4 cup ammonia. After letting sit overnight, open bags (go outdoors or to a well ventilated space), remove burners and rinse.

Food bits on a glass stovetop.
Lift them away with a single-edge razor blade. Gently slide it under the cooked-on food and magic– it’s clean.

How to get the most out of your AC

Heres how to keep the AC on the lowest setting and still be comfy, even on the hottest days…

These summer tips were brought to you by:  Mr. Move Up

Trying the shrubbery trick.
Landscaping to shade your entire home from the sun is a great way to keep it cool for less. The best use of your landscaping dollars is to plant a few inexpensive shrubs to shield the air conditioning unit. This trick will actually boost the unit’s efficiency bill and save you money.

Cleaning house at this time.
Dishwashers, washers, dryers and vacuums all give off enough heat to make your air conditioning work 10% harder. Use them when your house is naturally cooler either first thing in the morning or after dark – and the extra heat won’t kick the AC into overdrive.

Swapping your light source.
Not only do compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) use about 75% less energy than traditional bulbs, but they also give off 75% less heat. Make the switch and your AC won’t be working so hard – saving you about $40 in cooling costs over the lifetime of just one bulb.

Cracking an attic window.
The hottest air in your home is on this upper level–and it can often seep lower into your living space. By cracking a window, you can lower the attic temperature–even a few degrees is enough to help reduce the stiflingly air that heats up the rest of your home.

Austin Texas Dating Capital of the World!

Hooking that hottie is hard enough without the odds stacked against you, so the city researchers at Sperling’s BestPlaces have identified  “America’s Best Cities for Dating.”

The study is based on criteria that includes percentage of singles ages 18-24, population density, and dating venues per capita such as concerts, coffee shops, bars, bowling alleys, etc., and includes 80 metro areas in America. This survey was sponsored by AXE Deodorant Bodyspray, which specializes in the dating game, to find out which city is revered as the D.C. (Dating Capital) of the U.S…

Yee haw! Austin, Texas, tops the list of best cities to play the dating game. Is the city you call home the place to find that special someone?

Best Cities For Dating…

Interesting Facts from the Top Ten…

“Large cities that everyone associates with socializing, like Los Angeles and Miami, did not rank particularly high, scoring lower in categories like coffee shops per capita and flowers bought as gifts,” said Bert Sperling, president of Sperling’s BestPlaces.

“But cities like Austin (No. 1), Colorado Springs (No. 2) and Ann Arbor (No. 8 ) were not a complete surprise - they are heavy-populated college towns and it’s easy for young singles to get together.”

Austin - Where Small Business Rocks!

Hello Readers,

Check out this amazing article I ran across in the Kipilinger Personal Finance magazine…

Many rankings of cities seem poorly researched and insufficiently comprehensive to be credible. This is not the case with the well respected Kiplinger Personal Financial magazine that did in-depth research and site visits to find the Best City in the US . In their most recently study, Austin ranks as the number-one Best city for the Next Decade. In a nutshell, they found Austin is a hotbed for small business and music. In their research, they focused on places that specialize in out-of-the-box thinking. They were looking for new ideas that generate new businesses and places where innovation really works well. They identified innovation as having three elements: 1) smart people, 2) great ideas and 3) collaboration. It was the third element of collaboration that “really supercharges a city’s economic engine.” They also noted “when governments, universities and business communities work together, the economic vitality is impressive.” What a great description of Austin ! Here’s another comment from the report that fits Austin well: “And it’s no coincidence that economic vitality and livability go hand in hand. Creativity in music, arts and culture, plus neighborhoods and recreational facilities that rank high for “coolness,” attract like-minded professionals who go on to cultivate a region’s business scene. All of which make our 2010 Best Cities not just great places to live but also great places to start a business or find a job.” This is also a great description of Austin . 50,000 new residents every year seems to also support this view.

The section on Austin states: ” Austin is arguably the country’s best crucible for small business, offering a dozen community programs that form a neural network of business brainpower to help entrepreneurs. Now overlay that net with a dozen venture-capital funds and 20 or so business associations, plus incubators, educational opportunities and networking events. Mix all these elements in what many call a classless society, where hippie communalism coexists with no-nonsense capitalism, and you’ve got a breeding ground for start-ups. Don’t discount the fun factor: In the self-proclaimed live-music capital of the world, music and business creativity riff off one another. The city’s famous South by Southwest festival, where concerts, independent film screenings and emerging technology overlap, is a prime example.”

Here’s the link to the longer article on Austin which is also printed below. http://www.kiplinger.com/magazine/archives/best-cities-2010-austin-texas.html

Also, here’s a link to a nice 2 minute video tour of Austin . http://www.kiplinger.com/video/index.html?bcpid=35148674001&bclid=1571610693&bctid=87688564001

3 Common Mistakes Home Buyers Make

Buying a home is the biggest purchase most people will ever make, yet many go into it blind. Here are the 3 common — and costly — mistakes homebuyers make.

1. Not knowing your credit score

Why does it matter?

The lower your score, the higher your costs of borrowing. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, for example, charge higher up-front fees to borrowers with credit scores below 740.

2. No Realtor

It’s nice to have someone on your side, especially one that can save you a bundle and make sure you don’t make these mistakes!

3. Not budgeting for insurance

Many homebuyers don’t understand just what is — and what is not — covered. Standard policies pay for theft and wind, fire, lightning, hail and explosion damage. Not covered is flooding, earthquake damage or problems caused by neglect of routine maintenance, according to Jeanne Salvatore, spokeswoman for the Insurance Information Institute, an industry-sponsored educational group.
